RE: PROPOSED MARY RIVER MEGA DAM
In the absence of information being made available from the Queensland State Government regarding the proposed mega dam on the Mary River at Traveston, the Save the Mary River Coordinating Group (a Sub-Committee of the Friends of Kandanga Inc) has prepared the attached report regarding this proposal.
In preparing this report, the group is seeking answers to fundamental questions about the planning and consultation process associated with this decision. The report poses a number of questions which we believe the Queensland State Government, in the interest of fair and transparent decision making, has an obligation to provide to the people of Queensland.
The report has been prepared by ordinary people, by volunteers - it is not backed by the considerable resources that the State Government has at its disposal, however it is based on legislation and documented studies which are freely available to the public. We hope that this document will contribute to a meaningful debate about this particular project and the process of Government which gave rise to this proposal.
