Surely indigenous groups being forced to sign off on an ILULA before the project is approved is grossly unjust and contravenes the Akwé: Kon Voluntary guidelines for the conduct of cultural, environmental and social impact assessments regarding developments proposed to take place on, or which are likely to impact on, sacred sites and on lands and waters traditionally occupied or used by indigenous and local communities.
Neither the report prepared by Godwin and L’Oste-Brown nor Chapter 14 of the EIS refer to consultation with the Batjala/Butchulla people whose country is along the Mary River north from Bauple and includes the Great Sandy Straits and Fraser Island.
hmmm..no likely impact downstream ???.. therefore no need to consult with these people??? Seems to be a common oversight.. |
