Being unable to make sense of the EIS, probably as intended by its creator, has anyone done the calculations of the amount of methane that will be released as all the vegetation in the area covered by water beings to rot down anaerobically?
Given it's much more damaging than CO2 it must be a consideration and should be bought to the awareness of all parties. Would this Methane be subject to a carbon tax under any ETS or would it be one more major pollution source the government would turn a bligh-nd eye to. |

Hi crystalmaster.
The institute of Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney did some calculations on that in a report last year. I can't find the link to the actual report just now (my computer's hard drive crashed last week and I've lost a bunch of stuff. However, here is a link to a courier mail article quoting the report.

And no, I don't believe emissions from dams count in the proposed ETS. _________________ "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything" - anon.

| Thanks for that link Darren. I doubt that Bligh cares about any statistics that don't suit her and will be pushing Garret to support her rather than lose face. Given his great gymnastics in back flipping on everything else he purported to believe in pre his political career, I don't hold out much hope on this one either. |
