NEW DECISION GIVES MARY VALLEY RESIDENTS EXTRA TIME FOR BUY BACK

Mary Valley residents will have another month to decide whether to buy back land after the State Government extended the date for residents to register their interest.

Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Stirling Hinchliffe said former landowners who sold their properties within the site of the former Traveston Crossing Dam project would now have until 30 June 2010 to register their interest in re-purchasing. The previous date was May 31.

“We acknowledge that people’s lives have been disrupted and they have lived with uncertainty for a number of years because of this project,’’ Mr Hinchliffe said.

“The Government’s buy back scheme intends to provide former landowners certainty of process and an opportunity for rapid settlement on the re-purchase of their land.

“To ensure all former landowners have the maximum opportunity to buy back we have extended the scheme for a further month.”

Negotiations for the buy back will be conducted by officers from the Department of Infrastructure and Planning (DIP). Individuals who repurchase their former properties will have their legal costs met and stamp duty charges paid.

“This means former landowners will not be out of pocket on the sale of their land. They can have it back for exactly what the Government paid for it,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“All existing registered leases and rental agreements will be honoured.’’

Former landowners with questions about the buy back scheme can call the Department of Infrastructure and Planning’s 24-hour enquiry line on 07 3835 9985 or can email maryvalley.buyback@dip.qld.gov.au
