From Toowoomba city council newsletter...
Ray Martin and the crew from 60 Minuteswere in town last week. Ray's comment was - "There shouldn't be a story in this. Recycling is sensible. Toowoomba should be just doing it!" The program goes to air Sunday July 23. |

Fingers crossed they broadside this stupid dam and Toowoomba's reluctance to step into the 21st century and accept recycled water. Somebody's got to. Cars such as the Toyota Prius were mocked as a ridiculous novelty, told it would never take, now these efficient, greenhouse friendly vehicles are filling an ever widening niche market. Sooner or later these modern, forward thinking, environmentally friendly changes have to be rolled out.
I suppose the reason it's hard to sell these changes to the public is because the major players are still Gen X and Baby Boomers. It is the small children of today that will grow up and change the world (save the world) on a global scale. |

60 minutes ran the story tonight, combining water recycling vote in Toowoomba and the Mary Valley Dam. The story featured John Cochrane as well as Rick and Carol Elliot.
BBB was featured using weasel words. All up a very good coverage IMHO.

I agree. BBB looked like a looser and the guy in Toowoomba closing statement was good. The Mary Valley segment was great. But of course only covered a very small side of the debate - like media tends to do.
For those that missed it there is an rich anti-recycling man in Toowoomba who said if other towns in Australia used recycling water he wouldn't care about Toowoomba using it - he just didn't want Toowoomba to be the guineapig. So he is totally against the political process of doing it and not the recycling process itself.
BBB admitted that towns recycle sewage anyway as sewage makes its way into rivers upstream. He had no reasonable answer for why Brisbane is not doing it. And had no reasonable answer for the Mary to be dammed.
Ray did mention the social aspect and the infeasibility of it holding water.
I would like to see them return and do the environmental aspects. _________________ " Bliar Bliar Pants on Fire. If you were Pinocchio we could use your nose to build the pipeline." |
