That's Terri with an 'i'. Smile
Did you mean me only having a beleif for a mintue or Bleattie? I think you meant Bleattie. I hope so, because I staunchly frown upon anyone trying to profit out of this dam and other people's sadness. I have beleived that from the get-go.
I can't help thinking that Beattie and his cohorts would want to keep all their bases covered. If the dam is stopped Federally or by people power, then they'll have prime land to sell to Devine and Terry Mackenroth. If Stage 2 doesn't go ahead, they'll have snapped up some high quality country to, again, sell on to developers or industry. In Stage 2 where they are purchasing full properties. Dangle a big carrot in front of people so they'll sell the whole farm instead of part purchase. Then subdivide the unaffected half and have swamp frontage blocks to sell to the big line of refugees (southerners) moving across the border into Queensland in search of a treechange. And of course we mustn't forget the subdivisions Bleattie/QWI wants in order to accommodate those that have been acquired and want to buy back into the valley.

Razz wish I could put my laughter on here
Okay Terry with a Y Yes I did mean I thought that the pollies are a wee bit fickle.
Wall to wall mini-mansions on 400sq metre blocks are a tad scary to envisage, but is certainly one way they could recoop the money spent.
I'm sure they would find a way to change regulations to make that possible.

I read what was written on the topic of Cribb Island and the reminiscenses of life in the Valley and was enthralled. Much more of that would be fantastic.
What ever happened to the words that Stormy started writing when this forum was just new?

Struth don't know what's wrong with me, I got it wrong again, sorry. It was not intentional just a block in my brain.

Dunno, our poor Stormy has been put through the ringer no thanks to this stupid dam. Maybe some day she'll feel inspired again to continue her 'Old Man Story'.
I guess we stopped reminiscing on that thread because it was only Hissyfit and I in the end. I wish other valley people could relive their stories for us. Stories about their childhood in the valley, or their lives in the valley when they first came here and worked at setting up their farms and homes. Stories about their children growing up in the valley. If anyone would like to contribute to the thread, we'd all love to read about your experience's in the Mary Valley (and beyond).
Here's the thread. http://travestonswamp.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1612

Smile signing off, Terri (with an 'i').

Not long after the announcement of the proposed Traveston Dam, I advised people not to wait until the last moment to agree to an offer by the Government because the longer people held off, the less they would get for their properties. Sadly this has proved to be the case.
From very early on, I could not lie to the public, because I knew that the Government was serious about building this dam at any cost, which is why I was so keen that people got the best deal they possibly could from the beginning.

Objection on this one. For starters the Government has to complete their studies, and when real facts are laid out on the table the dam is actually a no go. As much as Beattie and his private company QWIPL may dream of a done deal, it is not.

Any other person (s) or a registered company, domiciled in Australia or not, may also like to place an offer to buy the whole lot or part of this land. That will be your market value then, at the time of that valuation. Who says the only buyer would be the Queensland Government and whatever company they pull out of their hat to act for them? Two can play this game. The late Kerry Packer made good use of the rules that are legal and legitimate World wide. We will not go into the fact that he still owned and controlled his own places. A bit of smart and legal paper work and all can be fine. Currently it is a one only local private company attempting to buy the land, and the land is being made artificially cheap via a possibly false and totally premature announcement. How legal is that???

I too would like to see the best deal for all, and selling cheap to a thinly disguised Government entity is not one of them. I could never bring myself to advise that as a sole or final option to anyone. But then I am not a registered financial planner or business advisor, so techincally I am unqualified to speak.
