Mary River Torch Relay – Traveston Crossing

Conditions of Entry to participation in the Mary River Torch Relay –
Traveston Crossing Human Chain and Canoe Flotilla, September 6, 2008. Registration will open at 8.30am for canoeists, 9.30am for chain.
Welcome and we hope you enjoy your day as we pass receive and pass the GetUp! Climate Torch Relay.
As a Duty of Care, we are responsible for ensuring that everyone entering the property is aware of the potential hazards. . All people entering the event are required to read the document, sign and date this form.
. • Participants in the Human Chain or Flotilla do so entirely at their own risk. If you hurt yourself or someone else, the Save the Mary River Coordinating Group and the property owner are not liable.
. • Marshalls will provide participants with directions to safely form a human chain along the bank and through a selected crossing across the river. Please follow their directions. Two experienced paddlers will be nominated as Marshalls for the canoe leg, and will stay at the front and rear of the group. Do not paddle ahead of the front Marshall.
. • All participates must have sturdy shoes to protect their feet, wear a hat and sunscreen.
. • Canoeists must be registered with the Save the Mary River Coordinating group (maximum 300 canoeists) and children must be supervised by adults at all times.
. • All vehicles must stay on mown area and use designated parking areas or park legally on the public roads.
. • All canoes/kayaks to be on the Mary River upstream of the Traveston Crossing Bridge by 9.30am for a briefing.
. • Please be early to avoid congestion in getting to the river.Canoes can be heavy. Use correct lifting techniques (bend knees, not back) when handling canoes. Assess the load and if too heavy, use two or more people.
. • There are submerged logs and rocks in the river. All canoes/kayaks must have buoyancy. Buoyancy vests and hats are recommended. Some parts of the river and creek are shallow and canoes will need to be portaged. All participates must have sturdy shoes to protect their feet. Be careful getting in and out of the canoe – this is where accidents are most likely to happen.
. • The canoe trip will take about 2hours. All participants must have hat, sunscreen, water bottle and energy snacks. Do not drink the untreated river water. Arrival time back at Traveston Crossing Bridge is about 11.00 am for the human chain.
. • You will get wet and a little muddy. Be prepared and have a change of clothes for the end. Toilets are provided at the site
. • We take pride in our beautiful environment… Please take all rubbish home.
Each participant to sign separate form and hand to a Marshall at the Registration Desk.
