|
|
A QWI employee attended Saturdays GetUP climate torch relay event at Traveston Crossing Bridge.
He participated by parking his car with the other participant's cars on the side of the road at the eastern side of the bridge, walking on the Traveston Crossing road amongst the other members of the general public, and watching what was going on. He spoke to a few members of the public while he was standing on the road, walked round taking photographs of people and took a few photographs of the events in the river.
I did notice one difference between him and the hundreds of other people on the bridge (including elected State and Federal government representives), and the other local motorists who carefully crossed the bridge under police traffic supervision. He was the only one who got into his car and attempted to drive it directly through the pedestrians on the bridge, while slinging disrespectful comments at members of the public.
There is no pedestrian walkway on the bridge, so vehicular traffic has a duty of care towards pedestrians, cyclists and animals using this popular river crossing. Most local drivers respect this responsibility, but Mr Spencer may not be accustomed to the usual duty of care that lays with motorists towards other users of public roads in rural areas.
Perhaps this man should learn some manners if he is to manage stakeholder relations more effectively. This was the only display of uncivil behaviour that I saw throughout the entire peaceful event, and most of the people in the valley take a dim view of disrespectful yobbos from out of town trying to spoil community events. _________________ "Bad luck ... you dickheads. The words 'rude,' 'foolishly aggressive,' are the mild ones that come to mind - I hope he remembers that his actions are/were visible to people from many diverse electorates!!!!

I watched the total disregard by Mike Spencer, QWI Pty Ltd first hand too. He didn't just do it once. He drove back and forth through the crowd several times.
Whilst all other drivers that I saw adhered to the clear "Slow: Pedestrians" signs and the directions from the Marshals, Mr Spencer seemed intent on causing an incident / injury. Everyone else slowed down to walking speed. Spencer rammed through at dangerous velocity as if he was trying to hit someone.
I call upon Premier Anna Bligh to apply the public service code of conduct to this employee of a state government owned company for reckless endangerment. _________________ "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything" - anon.

I didn't witness this incident but from what is written here, it seems to me that this bloke may have committed offenses against our Traffic Act., in the he drove his vehicle on a road, without due consideration for other road users. (at the least)
At worst, Dangerous Driving which is a criminal offense in this state. Either way, if there are witnesses to the incident/s , who are prepared to come forward and give evidence, it could be well worth reporting them to Police for further investigating.
Just a thought. _________________ The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis. Dante Alighieri

I was reading back through the EIS and it states that | Quote: | | However, for some residents, the only way to resolve uncertainty and perceived threats to security and local values is for the Project to not to proceed. An on-going commitment to information, consultation and negotiation is required to address impacts on community values, including relationships and trust in government experienced during the pre-construction period. | How is everyones relationship and trust in government with this bloke looking after us? |
