The Gympie Regional Council has written to the Queensland Government expressing its frustration over a lack of consultation on plans to renew the Mary Valley in the state's south-east.

Councillor Jan Watt says the council has requested meetings with the Department of Infrastructure and Planning about its plans for land bought for the now defunct Traveston Crossing dam project, but no meetings have been held.

She says the department is due to report to Cabinet in December, but has not met the council or residents about its plans.

"They're still struggling and it's been four-and-a-half years, so we need that time frame," she said.

"It's too little too late if Gympie is asked to comment after the fact - we need to have input and inform the outcomes."

"We want a meeting, we want to have dialogue and we want to have input because there are some major planning issues, there's major agricultural issues.

"When you are talking about riparian to the river frontage of properties, how does that impact on the farming access?

"When you're talking about water allocations, how does that impact on the farming and agriculture which is the main activity in the Mary Valley?"
