July 19 2006

Quote:
MP Elissa Roberts has announced that she will not recontest her south-east Queensland seat of Gympie at the next state election.

"A couple of months ago somebody in the media told my girls and I that the National party had said to him that they know they can't beat me at the polls, so they're going to destroy me emotionally - and they've won," Ms Roberts told ABC Radio.

Last year, she became embroiled in a controversy over accusing Liberal leader Bob Quinn of trying to bribe her to join the party.

Three subsequent inquiries, including one by the Crime and Misconduct Commission, later cleared Mr Quinn of the allegations.
