Does anyone have todays Sunday Mail? Go to about page 20 (I think) and read the story about Gorby and STMR. I haven't read the story yet just heard it second hand but would love to see it. It may be an exciting breakthrough Laughing Laughing Laughing

Yes, it was only a short piece in which Gorbachev said he had been lobbied by SMRCG and that Beattie had given him a presentation.

The Green Cross CEO was also quoted as saying that, if/when they set up their office in Australia (Brisbane), they could invesigate the Mary valley dam as the first order of business. Pretty exciting

We heard on Saturday that Gorby was seen walking into the conference with STMR documents under his arm and had said he would be setting up the Green Cross in Brisbane. But we haven't been able to confirm it yet - except from the Sunday Mail reporter and subsequent story.

Belinda from STMR sent the stuff to him a few weeks ago. So a big cheer for Belinda.

I personally think it is a big breakthrough if we work the publicity right. I assume Belinda is going to get back in touch with her contacts on his team and keep the ball rolling.

I see Prince Albert is now heading a fight to save endangered animals and get quality water to third world countries. But how on earth would someone go about notifying Prince Albert about our endangered species being in the path of this dam?

PALACE OF MONACO, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Prince Albert II of Monaco today announced a new foundation as part of his 'personal commitment for the protection of the environment and for sustainable development'.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20060627/217988 )

The Prince listed the serious environmental warning signs that "require each of us to act if we are to protect our home for future generations. Each of us shares the environment; each of us has a duty to act to protect it".

Prince Albert II cited the impact of global warming, including rising temperatures and ocean levels, as well air and water pollution, fast-decreasing biodiversity, and lack of clean water for billions of people worldwide. Jean-Louis Etienne, the eminent explorer and environment expert, spoke on these and other environmental challenges.

The Albert II Foundation "will be a permanent source of dynamic and innovative actions for environmental protection and sustainable environment", the Prince said. "It will act to accelerate action by mobilizing people and resources across borders".

The Foundation will focus on three areas: climate change, biodiversity, and access to drinking water.

Prince Albert said, "Monaco may not be the biggest country in the world, but I am determined to show it can be among the most innovative in its approaches to the environment."

The Prince referred to Monaco's contribution to maritime protection. He said, "My great-great grandfather, Prince Albert I, made four expeditions to the North Pole a century ago. On the two recent trips which I made following his footsteps, our measurements showed significant reduction of the glacier there, one sign of the urgency of the situation".

The Prince concluded, "The Foundation, dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development, which I am announcing today, aims to play a key role in responding to this urgency. Please be assured of my personal and permanent commitment to that goal."

I'm sure someone so quick with the computer keys and obviously a early riser and forum-ite (everytime I get up early and get on - you are there first) could find an email for the Prince. I will also do some searching around the www. Is there no website for the foundation?

Did you know we received a letter from Prince Charles saying he couldn't become involved in the debate but offered his support for the people. Maybe a media artcle about the world leaders and letters of support would be interesting.

Got an address if ya want it.... Very Happy Should I post the contact address for 'Palias princier-Press Office'? I didn't know if I should.

Yeh, I'm sometimes up at dawn's crack looking at the morning papers on the net. Hubby goes to work fairly early so I'm wide awake pretty early and I tend to hold off till a respectable hour so people don't think I'm a complete loser getting on the forum at 5.00am every morning. Very Happy

I've looked everywhere for a website for The Albert ll Foundation and can't find one. It was only announced at the end of June so maybe they haven't got a website yet.
